History of Puppet
Since storytelling and the need to express ourselves have always been a human quality so no one really knows when puppetry first began. Puppets were created as an extension of the person who made it. They allow us to create an imaginative world or recreate a human experience. Puppets were used to teach others a story, lesson or just for entertainment. Studying the history of puppetry, some believe that the first puppets began in China with the classic shadow puppets and shadow theater.  Chinese puppet designers often created shadow puppets form animal skin, colored with paint, they are placed in front of a screen with light passing through it. The shadows of the puppets are seen by the audience on the other side.  Native American created some of the earliest kind of puppets with ritual masks with hinged jaws, the puppeteers would move the mouth and limbs to tell stories though performance. Native Americans used puppets in festivals and ceremonial dances. While Egyptians created puppets from dried terra cotta pieces joining them to allow for movement.

Hand puppets have a long history among humans. Puppet shows and puppets were mentioned in Aristotle and Plato's writing. Although puppets and story telling have existed throughout human history, with a simple hand gesture or motion, a story can be told. Puppets became an extension of the person performing with it. Puppets and puppetry allow us to make sense of our world and create imaginative worlds. They have and can be used to educate and entertain all ages.
